When we first thought of this idea of bringing our fresh take on portrait photography half way across the globe, we didn’t know what to expect. Kinda like jumping into the “deep end and see what happens” approach. Sometimes it is the best way to learn. And learn we did! Anne and I learned that there is a pent-up demand for modern natural portraiture that is authentic and relational.

So we’re back from an incredible experience photographing various families in Malaysia and Singapore. We were all over the cities on this photoshoot project. From the historic colonial district of Fullerton Bay area to the tranquil natural settings of KL’s Lake Gardens. We got escorted aroound at the uber-cool Mont Kiara neighbourhoods to frolicking about in the cool uplands of Genting. We even got to shoot at a Peranakan District of Emerald Hill in Singapore. Locations that foreign visitors would not normally visit. But it was the wonderful friendships that we made during the project that was the true highlight.

We met Adrian and Julia when there were only two of them! Then Nat Nat came along. Cool! Later Jayden joined the party. And Josiah made five. We have had the pleasure to photograph this little boy back in 2011. What was once a sleepy quiet little infant is now a hyperactive boy running around exploring everything at Queens Park in New Westminster. “Wait! Come back Jo Jo! Wait!”

We spent an afternoon photographing the Graffunders by the beach in White Rock, BC. Even when it is gray for the rest of Metro Vancouver, you can pretty much count on the sun hanging out over White Rock. Like a lot of our clients, everyone has a unique family story to tell. Special moments that define who they are. Here is the Graffunder Story….

Ahh Granville Island. The place of clashing contrasts. Where else can one find a children market right opposite a beer brewing facility? Where the well heeled Vancouver yacht owners dine with scruffy bicycle owning hippies in a local artisan food court run by immigrants. In all technical purposes, ‘ol Granville is not even an island!

So it is in this home of the opposites where we met up with the Chan family. You see they travelled 10,000km from Hong Kong while we travelled 30km for this family photography session! Nah, they were really visiting loved ones and we’re just a side-show distraction. But hey we all had fun and little Charlyne was insanely adorable!

Welcome to Canada guys! Now go feed some ducks!

Sometimes one just has to step out of one’s comfort zone. Yup. That’s what that fortune cookie read. Uh-huh!

Over the last couple of years, we have had the greatest pleasure of not just meeting but also photograph some of the most wonderful people here in beautiful Vancouver, BC. It started out as a little idle talk on the way back from a recent photo shoot. Since we have shot for clients coming from other parts of the world, therefore why not bring ourselves to the world? So this year we are taking our ninja portrait photography vision across the great Pacific for our first ever “Connections 2013” Photoshoot tour.  We will be hitting two major cities in Asia – Kuala Lumpur and Singapore and will be documenting relationships as we have been in Vancouver. So get the word out!

It’s gonna be pretty awesome! Stay Tuned….

In a word – INCREDIBLE. There’s no ifs no buts. Anne and I absolutely enjoy working with children period. Fun Loving. Genuine. Beautiful.

Case in point was our late fall children photography at Kids by Design in Maple Ridge. The plan was to capture the beautiful golden colours of Fall leaves. Mid-way through this multi day photoshoot, the heavens open up and it began to rain. Nooooo!!! All of us ran back into the building. Drats! But guess what, despite the rain down, the children’s spirit didn’t get dampened. They were upbeat. A quick look around, we thought “Hey, that concrete mural wall looks cool! Let’s try it.” As they say the rest are history and we all had crazy fun for the rest of the time.

Dear Parents, thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to work with you wonderful children. Love them. Cherish them. They are great.

God bless the Pacific North West for its mild weather. But it ain’t Hawaii either. This time of the year the winter might be mild compared to other parts of Canada. But it is still chilly. I can see my breath.

Of course this Albertan family thought it was just a pleasant day. “Winter? What winter? Man up Alwin!” ribbed Jeff.

We first came to know the Andersen family through one of our  school photography session that their son Isak was in. They were really impressed with our artistic works on school photos that they wanted to have a family photography shoot with us. So here we are wandering through the magnificent Kanaka Creek Park east of Vancouver …. in the middle of winter.

Good thing the bears are sleeping this time of the year!

“I’m updating the website. It says press here to upgrade to WordPress 3.5″ I told her. “See it says in progress….”

10 minutes passed.

“Are you done yet? We need to put the kids to sleep” Anne walked by. <silence>

“Did you hear me? What’s with the website?” She asked.

“Uh…. I think we have a problem. Uh.” I muttered staring at what was once www.veritas-images.com home of Vancouver Portrait Photography.

The velocity of 2012 has caught us by surprise considering our initial shoot started in the Spring. Then it all went warp speed through to end of the year. Arghh!!! And here we are already! The photo-shoots have brought us to many cool locations in the Vancouver region. This year took us to gorgeous coastal parklands in Burnaby, quaint farms in Maple Ridge and Langley, White Rock’s beaches and many others including an urban studio shoot in a concrete basement! But through it all, Anne and I have had the greatest pleasure to  meet and connect with some really wonderful people.

Reflecting back this amazing year the one word that stood out is – relationships. When we first set out in our portrait business we always believe that images need to be authentic and relate-able. Our vision is to document relationships through our photography. Our Storybook Collection augments that vision in the form of fine-art albums. I supposed we must be doing something right as our storytelling photography work has been noticed by a major professional print house in the US!

We want to thank you for your support and encouragements. Anne and I truly appreciate you because you stood with us when we first birth Veritas Images and are still with us we continue to grow.
